Song poll underway

The Pab Sungenis Project “Listener’s Choice 2003″ poll is up and underway. Be sure to rate as many songs as we played in 2003 as possible. Results will determine the selection played in our year-end Listener’s Choice show the weekend of December 26!

Some good reading for those who are up for it.

Earlier this evening, I came across something that set me off on one of my “nuclear war” kicks again. I get them every so often. The best example would be August of 2000, when in honor of the 45th anniversary of Hiroshima, I did a Project spotlight on The Atomic Bomb.

While surfing the web, almost at random, I came across Nuke Pop, a study of how American popular culture has responded to nuclear weapons in the years since the dropping of the Bomb. Definitely good reading for those so inclined.

And if you’re not so inclined, this is what set me off on the nuclear war kick tonight to begin with. It helps if you’ve played Nintendo, especially Earthbound.

Good bye MP3.com

When I started my show, I relied on MP3.com to bring me fresh new comedy from people I had never heard of. It was there that I found Logan Whitehurst, Three Dead Trolls In A Baggie, Tom Smith, Geoffrey Golden, The Arrogant Worms, Larry Weaver, and a lot of other people who have made up my show for three and a half years.

MP3.com goes bye-bye on December 2nd. C|Net bought the URL, but not the music, so Vivendi Universal is just flushing everything there down the toilet. How nice.

I’ve currently got a directory on my drive called “Raped From MP3.com” and am downloading all the comedy I can. The sad part is that now new artists will have a harder time getting noticed, not only by me, but everyone else.

Goodbye, MP3.com. Boycott C|Net!

Up on the soapbox again

I’m still digesting my Canadian trip notes, but I had to comment on this first.

I’m sure by now you’ve heard about the guy who ripped the cover off of a library’s copy of the Advocate, but there’s one thing that I think is being underreported.

Earlier reports that I heard had the man saying he ripped the cover off not only because it had two men kissing, but that the cover had a black man kissing a white man.

Could racism have also entered into this? This is Virginia we’re talking about here.

How disappointing.

My life is rated PG-13.
What is your life rated?

Ommmm….

Forget Scientology. The hot new religion is Rintellism.

From the Pantheon of Lesser Known Gods (2003-2004 edition)

Rintell – lowercase god of LIES and BULLSHIT. Smiter of modems and scammer of hotel rooms. Known to meet occasionally with the god of chunks, and continually denying his lowercase godhood his followers, called rintellites. Rintellites number in the rintillions. Additional information about the lowercase god of LIES and BULLSHIT can be found in the full listing of the gods and GODS. Shrine visits are encouraged at: The Shrine Of Rintell.

I wanna start MY own religion.

Phew.

Just got back from Trawnto about a half hour ago. Expect to hear some dissertations on Canada over the next few days. First I have to go through my 393 Spamcop messages, over 300 ByteBrothers messages, and some real E-Mail.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a cash advance….

I’ve finally finished the first rough draft of a treatment/pitch document for the game show I’ve had in my head for a while. I sent it off to Ronnie, and am hoping to hear comments from him soon. I’m really hoping we get a chance to pitch this to GSN and a few other places.

I’ve always dreamt of being a television producer, believe it or not. Forget the on-camera stuff; I always wanted to be the one creating the shows. I’ve got a bottom drawer full of treatments and pilot scripts. (Actually, I have the contents of the former bottom drawer in storage now. Somewhere.) It’s a compulsion.

Please wish us luck, and hope things go our way. Who knows? Maybe some time in 2005 you could be watching our sick, twisted, evil game show.

Oh, the pain!

Is God punishing me? I finally committed the mortal sin of the Great American Broadcaster; I’ve gone to satellite radio. Late last week I bought a SIRIUS tuner and controller for my Saturn, and this morning I went down to Circuit City in the Shore Mall to have it installed. On my way in, after dropping the car off, my legs suddenly went out from under me. I was on even pavement, so I know I didn’t trip; my legs suddenly stopped working, and I pitched forward and fell. I twisted my right wrist, which has never been right since I injured it on New Year’s Day, 1999. (The pain that day was so intense that you could hear me straining through tears on the air, and they had to get someone to relieve me on my first day as a full-time jock at WVLT.) I also tore right through the knees of my new black khakis. Luckily, they were on sale at Boscov’s, which I fell right in front of, so I was able to replace them.

Anyway, I now have SIRIUS satellite radio in my car, and I’m enjoying it. The best way to describe the sound quality today is like a 96K MP3, with a good deal of artifacting and a tiny bit of fading. I’m pretty sure that’s because it was raining today, so I’m not that worried. Besides, I didn’t buy it for the sound quality, I bought it because of the selection.

Trust me, SIRIUS has it all over XM. Not only a great selection of music, but also a great news and talk selection. I mean, I’d probably be willing to pay the subscription fee just for the BBC World Service and OutQ (the 24/7 All-Gay Talk Channel)!

Plus, it’s going to come in handy this weekend. For our anniversary, Brybry and I are going up to Toronto. (Excuse me, “Trawnto.”) I’m going to let him wander the city this time and decide where we go, so we’ll see if he hates it less than last time. At least the 9 hour trip will go easier without having to switch CD’s or radio stations every 70 miles.

Any Project fans in Toronto? If so, please E-Mail me; maybe we can have an informal meetup. And I have a chance to get on a station serving Toronto, but it would cost me CDN$300.00 a week. Any potential sponsors? :)
